Melbourne's The Temper Trap

We listen to a lot of "new" music and our tastes obviously influence our choices but there is also that little bit of something you can't quite put your finger on that says "these guys have something". There's a slew of them bubbling up in 2009. We think it's going to be a very good year in music!

1. The Temper Trap. Melbourne, Australia. Liberation Music/Mushroom Records.

Temper Trap has one EP under their belt and a debut album that has everyone holding their breath. The anticipation is based pretty much on the strength of the first single "Sweet Disposition'' and their live shows. Already on BBC's Sound of 2009 short list, and scheduled to play 5 gigs at this year's SXSW Music Festival in Austin, we think this group has the potential to really break out. They remind us a bit of early 80's U2. This track is a big, radio ready, rock anthem that still manages to feel indie. If the album (recorded in Melbourne and produced by UK veteran Jim Abbiss), stands up to this single; the sky's the limit.
