Shilpa Ray, formerly of Beat the Devil and Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers, is now a rogue agent. Ray will be self-releasing her first solo album, Last Year’s Savage, in 2013, and her video for “Nocturnal Emissions” is a sneak peek of the upcoming release. The video was directed by Maria Gigante, who also directed Langhorne Slim’s latest, and shot by Brooklyn-based rock photographer Ebru Yildiz; it was conceived and written by Ray, and produced with the help of friends and Kickstarter pledges.

The concept for the video was inspired by the assault on women’s reproductive rights from right-wing forces this election cycle: Todd Akin defining the 50 shades of rape, Paul Ryan decreeing that rape is a method of conception, Richard Mourdock alleging that conception through rape is a gift from God. Ray decided to flip the War on Women on its head, and created a world where men could reproduce, treating every sperm as a potential life that’s worth preserving and protecting at any cost. In this world conservative women rule church and state, and if any sperm diverts its direct path upstream, wasting its life-giving power by detouring into a sock or a Kleenex, the Liberation Labia will bust in and “shut that whole thing down.”

If Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn, just imagine the fury that a whole army (er, binder) full of women could unleash. Or just watch the video and let Shilpa Ray imagine it for you.
